A kid shows up at your door

It's a beautiful Sunday evening in June. A high-school age kid shows up at your door and tells you about a special his pest control company is offering:

"$69 for a first application, for new customers only.  If you like, we can come back every three months or so for a follow-up."

Sounds good, I think.  We have noticed some ants in the house.  I tell him to come back the next day and get it done.

They show up while I'm at work.  They tell my wife she has to sign a contract, "Don't worry, your husband has agreed to all the terms.  You just initial here and here, and sign here."

They do the work.  It takes them about 15 minutes.  They bill the $69 and I pay the bill.

Everything was fine, or so I thought.
